• Reduplication — Doubling a word forms plurals or shifts meaning, as in buku-buku for books.
• Classifiers when counting — Numbers need a classifier chosen according to the type of object, such as orang for people and ekor for animals.
• Pronouns signal formality — Choosing saya over aku, or anda over awak, marks how formal and how close you are, and getting it wrong sounds either stiff or overly familiar.
