• A third gender — Neuter nouns behave as masculine in the singular and feminine in the plural, so you have to know both forms to use one correctly.
• Să instead of the infinitive — Where Spanish or Italian would use an infinitive, Romanian typically uses să plus a conjugated verb, much as Greek and Bulgarian do.
• A Slavic vocabulary layer — The grammar is Romance but a large slice of everyday vocabulary comes from Slavic, so knowing Spanish helps less than you would expect.
