Is Thai hard for English speakers?

• Classifiers — Counting and pointing at things both require a classifier matched to the noun, so "two dogs" needs a word between the noun and the number.
• Politeness particles and a large pronoun set — Sentences end with ครับ or ค่ะ depending on the speaker's gender, and the choice of pronoun signals age, status and closeness.
• Tone depends on consonant class — Reading aloud means combining the consonant's class, the vowel length and any tone mark to work out the tone. This is why the script takes longer than its letter count suggests.
