September's release is about seeing how far you have come. Until now NativePal told you how a single session went and then moved on. Version 2.9 adds a Progress tab that keeps the whole picture, separately for every language you learn, and a home screen rebuilt around what you were actually doing.
Below is what changed, what it means on the free tier, and a short recap of the summer, because a lot of people found the app in August and asked what was new.
Open Progress and you get your current streak, a heat map of the days you practised, your best scores, and everything you have finished. Each language is kept separately, so if you are learning Spanish and Japanese at the same time, the two do not blur into one number.
We built it because the most common question in support was some version of "am I actually improving?". A single session score cannot answer that. A month of squares on a heat map, next to your best scores, can.
The daily nudge is still there. New is a heads-up before a streak ends, so a missed day is a choice rather than a surprise the next morning.
You choose the time, pick which reminders you get, or turn them all off, in Settings. Nothing about reminders is tied to premium.
The main page now leads with what you were doing last and what is due, rather than a fixed list of exercises. It is the first thing you see every day, so we would like to hear what you think. There is a feature-voting board in Settings, and several shipped features started as a request there.
Reading lessons shipped in July, in version 2.8. Pick one of nearly 70 topics and get a story written for your level, with the key vocabulary and useful phrases first, every word tappable, and a short quiz at the end. Short, medium or long. On the free tier you get one short story a day; premium unlocks the longer ones.
Telugu joined in August, in version 2.8.1, as the 57th language, with the same reading, vocabulary, speaking and chat features as every other language.
